A couple of weeks ago, Jack Wilshere did a reveal-all interview with The Athletic in which he shed some light on the difficulties he had been giving away from football.
Desperate for a club to sign with or even train with, Wilshere now appears likely to return to London Colney.
Arteta has claimed that the door is always open for Jack at Arsenal.
“We are in conversations with Jack to understand what he needs, what he is looking for,” he said.
“It’s a person and a player who has a huge admiration around everybody, not just the players or fans, but all the staff around here and we are willing to help him as much as we possibly can.
“He knows that and that’s the situation.”
Wilshere had been training with Serie B side Como, and it appears that he will only be training with Arsenal too.
Arteta has cooled suggestions that he would be back to play for the club. “I wouldn’t take it that far” he said.
Overall, I don’t see anything wrong with this. Wilshere loved Arsenal and grew to embody everything that you would demand of a club servant; he wore his heart on his sleeve and understand the gravity of the club, even if his body could not always match his own passion and ambition.
Worst case scenario, he trains largely on his own or with players recovering from injuries and youth players as he cannot match the pace of the first team. Best case scenario, he instills a passion for the badge in the first team and the youth teams and maybe if he builds up his fitness and proves he’s still got it, can even play matches for the youth teams or the first team.
To be honest though, even if he never brought any substantial benefit to our team, it would just be a nice gesture.
