Arsenal announce £30 million Martin Odegaard deal!

Finally, Arsenal have gotten this deal over the line.

This morning, Arsenal have announced the permanent signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid on a long term contract until 2026.

It is a deal that Fabrizio Romano claimed has always been Arsenal’s priority this summer; if there were a way Madrid would let him leave, Arsenal were always ready to make a bid and sign him permanently.

The surprise is that he will wear the number 8 this season, despite rocking the number 11 on his loan spell. I don’t know if we need to read too much into this, though perhaps it shows that maybe Torreira still has a future at Arsenal. Or perhaps the club has another signing in mind that the number 11 is being saved for.

Despite reports that he might have played against Chelsea, the recent updates suggest that this will no longer be possible due to issues with his visa.

Overall, I am happy with the signing and just glad that we are not done there.

Arteta in his press conference said “there are 11 days left and we still have things to do”.

Chris Wheatley also reports that Arsenal still have lots of business they wish to get done by the close of the window.
