Arsenal prepared to sell Aubameyang and Lacazette this summer. Barcelona interested

Reports are starting to emerge that Aubameyang and Lacazette’s “illness” that ruled them out against Brentford is not all that it seems.

Some reports suggested their training attitude hadn’t impressed Arteta. Until now, it seemed like Arteta would be willing to go one more season relying on those two to bring in the goals, despite an underwhelming 2020/21 campaign.

Now, Sport have reported that the two players could be made available for transfer this summer, with Barcelona showing immediate interest.

However, due to their financial struggles, any deal with Barcelona would have to be a swap deal involving some of their players.

It is thought that the most likely move would be Aubameyang or Lacazette in exchange for Coutinho whom Barcelona have been trying to offload for a couple of years now.

John Collins has also reported that there could be an interest in Dembele or Coutinho for Lacazette AND Sergi Roberto/Emerson Royal for Bellerin.

This is a lot to break down. Dembele is a player I have always really admired and I think would bring something a bit different to our attack. The main concern would be his injury record, however, I would still see it as good business if we could get him for Lacazette and a small sum of cash. Right now our attack is very predictable and easy to defend; Dembele would help fix that.

Coutinho is also an interesting rumour. We have been linked with him for a while. Again, I like the player, but he is 29 so they key for me is the wage. It needs to be a 3 year modest contract and that’s it. We cannot be paying him more than around £120-140k per week, or else we will be falling into the same traps as before. However, I do think he would improve the team if we could get him on a good deal. He would add a bit of goals and a bit of flair to our midfield which desperately needs it. I’d imagine this doesn’t affect the Odegaard deal, therefore Coutinho would maybe be seen as our talismanic option on the left.

Finally, if we were to manage to get rid of Bellerin and get in Emerson Royal in one move, that would be outrageously good business. Arsenal are crying out for a competent, attacking right back who can match Tierney’s output on the left. Emerson is that guy; tall, quick, physical and a good delivery. Plus, he is just 22 with plenty of time to grow.

Barcelona in fairness do still have some quality talent despite their bizarre situation. In fact, I’d be surprised if some other clubs don’t try and take advantage of that situation with some low-ball offers for their top stars.

What do you think Gooners? Should we let go of Auba or Laca? If they do head to Barcelona, which two players should we try and secure out of those which I have mentioned?

Another thing to consider is that none of these deals are guaranteed; it is just an early stage rumour and of course player swaps can generally be quite tricky to agree. However, you would think that if ever it were simple to finalise a player swap it would be where two clubs have found themselves in the kind of predicament Arsenal and Barcelona have.
