Newcastle closing in on £25 million Arsenal star

This summer always promised to be one in which Arsenal would see a lot of players depart the club.

However, up until this point we have seen predominantly loan deals in Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba. The likes of Nketiah, Lacazette, Torreira, Xhaka, Maitland Niles, and more were all linked with moves away, but are yet to be sold.

One name that looks increasingly likely to leave is Joe Willock. The youngster joined Newcastle on loan for the back end of last season and was in stellar form, scoring 8 goals from 11 Newcastle starts to help ensure Newcastle’s survival.

Newcastle want him permanently and many reports are now suggesting they are close to getting that wish. According to 90Min, we have agreed to a £25 million fee for Willock, though some reports today have reported it to be £20 million.

I think this is good business. Willock had a fair few chances at Arsenal and was never much more than solid. At Newcastle, he turned his market value from £10 million to £25 million; I don’t think it is worth the risk of this hype dying down and him leaving for cheaper in the future.

Plus, it could be crucial in allowing Arsenal to focus on other business. Reports revealed recently that Arsenal had tried to include Willock in a deal for Maddison; now by selling him we may have the money to just pay in cash which is what Leicester have asked for.
