Arsenal still hopeful of landing £77 million star

Despite reports suggesting that Romelu Lukaku is edging closer to a return to Chelsea, it is thought that Arsenal still hold out hope of securing a deal for another Inter Milan star.

Many reports broke out last week linking Arsenal with an ambitious move for Lautaro Martinez. However, the longer these rumours persist, the more feasible this deal seems.

However, Chelsea have thrown a spanner in the works. Inter need money and therefore were willing to sell Martinez if the price was right. Chelsea have given them a potential opportunity to raise funds another way as Goal reports Chelsea are preparing a £111 million bid for Lukaku, thought to be enough to bring the Belgian back.

The Athletic have kept Arsenal fans’ hopes alive by saying that regardless of the future of Lukaku, a deal for Martinez still could be achieved.

My guessing is that with Martinez only having 2 years left on his deal and seemingly unwilling to accept an extension, Inter may be forced into cashing in anyway.

This may play into Arsenal’s hands. Previously, Inter had said that we must pay in just cash and rejected the inclusion of Lacazette in the deal. Perhaps with the departure of Lukaku this might change. I have no doubts that Lacazette could be a 20 goal striker in the Serie A and with such little time left in the window, perhaps Arsenal can convince them to agree to a deal.
