Arsenal looking at loan deal for £18 million Barcelona star

News broke out a couple of days ago that Barcelona will not be able to register any of their new signings until they decrease their current wage bill. That leaves the likes of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay waiting in the wings until they sell some players.

A number of their highest paid stars are reportedly set to be made available and Sport in Barcelona are reporting Arsenal are in for Miralem Pjanic.

The 31 year old has a transfer value of £18 million, but it is thought that Arsenal would only want a loan deal.

In theory, if we cover his wages for the season that might help Barcelona balance their books for one more year.

The obstacle will be the wages. Arsenal would be expected to cover every penny of his £260k per week wages.

My immediate reaction was that this would be a terrible deal, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. The fact that it is a loan deal is the only reason why it should be considered. Arsenal need to stay away from signing older players on massive contracts like they’ve done in the past.

However, I would say that this needs to be a deal that gets done once every other priority is dealt with. Pjanic, despite being a great player, does not really fit our system and is not a do or die kind of signing. If Arsenal can afford his wages though once every other problem area is addressed, I wouldn’t mind it.

What do you think Gooners?
