Arsenal are set for a number of summer sales and hopefully a number of acquisitions as well.
One of those players who has been heavily linked with an exit is Eddie Nketiah, who now has just 12 months to run on his current deal and really struggled for game time towards the end of last season.
However, quite surprisingly, Arsenal recently offered him a new contract, despite him not seeming to be a part of Arteta’s plans. The Athletic confirmed this contract proposal, but there have been no developments on this since.
If Arsenal were to choose to sell, or if Nketiah were to say he wanted a challenge elsewhere, there would be no shortage of potential suitors. Fabrizio Romano tweeted today that Watford, Palace, and West Ham would all be keen. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have been interested in signing him for a while.
For me, I’d actually be quite concerned by Arsenal’s decision to try and extend his deal. I thought we would be looking to bring in another striker, like Alexander Isak, this summer and Balogun would be a backup. Nketiah hasn’t shown enough in my opinion to suggest that he will earn much game time next season.
Especially considering we might be able to still get around £15 million from him, we have to sell. That money can be crucial to signing someone to lead the line for a few years while the likes of Martinelli and Balogun come of age.
What do you think Gunners? Does Nketiah deserve another chance at Arsenal? Or does he deserve a fresh start where more game time will help him reach his actual potential?
