Arsenal looking at £60 million striker

One problem area for Arsenal last season was up front. Aubameyang had a shocker compared to his usual standards, Lacazette was very good in parts but looks likely to depart this summer whereas youngsters such as Nketiah and Balogun struggled for consistent game time.

As such, you can understand why Arsenal have been looking around for a new front man. Alexander Isak, 21, is one that The Athletic have confirmed Arsenal are interested in.

The youngster struggled in 2019/20 for Sociedad, but had a stronger campaign last year where he notched up 17 goals, marginally outperforming his xG which only Lacazette managed to do for us last season.

He is a very accomplished finisher and ball carrier, making him a dangerous linear threat. However, I would argue his overall game needs some brushing up. Though at just 21, he has plenty of time to improve that. Plus, with a positive xG record, he would do well in a team that creates more chances.

The main obstacle will be the price as he has a £60 million release clause, which in my opinion is an obscene amount to pay.

At the end of the day, we have some great young strikers who will ‘need time to improve their overall game’. Balogun and Martinelli for example are promising but neither would be ready to lead the line for us next season IMO.

Especially if we have a budget of £60 million, we need a striker capable of making a huge, instant impact. Not one where we have to wait a few years to see him start making the desired impact, because in a few years Balogun and Martinelli will be able to do that.
