Arsenal are reportedly looking to raise at least £60 million from player sales this summer, and a large portion of that could consist of selling former captain, Granit Xhaka.
Roma have been closing in on signing the Swiss captain and according to football.london, the Serie A club could have their wish and sign him before the Euros begins.
So far, a fee is still yet to be agreed, but it is thought that Xhaka would be keen on a move and it is reportedly his agent who is trying to push for the deal to be finalised ahead of the Euros this weekend.
Arsenal want to do business at £20 million, but Roma were thinking £12 million would be enough, meaning a transfer could still take some days to get sorted.
Arsenal have already started to look at replacements for Xhaka. Ruben Neves of Wolves seems to be the principal target in that number 6 role. The 24 year old is reportedly available for transfer this summer with the fee set to be around £34 million. People have criticised this business, and whilst I don’t exactly think Neves is a huge improvement on Xhaka, how many times have Arsenal tried to cut corners and get some cheap talent from abroad and it not work out.
This guy is still young, clearly talented and can probably do everything Xhaka has been doing for us, given he already has plenty of PL experience. But, we would have to look at another midfielder or two because going into a season with just Elneny, Partey (both potentially going to AFCON) and Neves would be silly.
