Arsenal ‘lead race’ for £81 million City star

Many rumours have suggested that Arsenal are set for an ‘exceptional’ summer.

There already look set to be a number of significant departures over the coming days and weeks as Arteta and Edu plan a massive squad overhaul this summer. It is thought that KSE might also supplement some money with player sells to make it a really special summer, as they try to get fans back on side.

To that end, a number of transfer links have followed. Some (like Onana) are far more concrete than others.

However, one exciting rumour to have broken out yesterday is that Arsenal could be at the front of the queue to sign Raheem Sterling if the City superstar departs Manchester this summer.

Despite generally being one of City’s best performers over the last few years, he has fallen down the pecking order at the champions this season due to slightly dwindling form, in a season where some slightly poor finishing has seen him only net 14 goals this season compared to the 31 he got last term.

And according to some reports, Pep could be in the mood for a reshuffle at City this summer with Sterling and Mahrez likely victims of that.

Sterling has two years left on his current deal and the Sun reports that Arsenal would be willing to pay £300k a week on his wages!

In my opinion, it is unlikely but is perhaps more realistic than you think. If City are looking at Grealish and Kane this summer, they may need to balance their books with a couple of sales. If Arsenal were willing to break the bank for Pepe, you would think that to get the fans back on side this is the kind of deal KSE would pull out all the stops to make. Remember as well that Sterling’s best years at City were credited to the impact of Mikel Arteta. Sterling has a market value of £81 million though, so any deal will be really, really tough. But my god would he be the perfect solution for our left wing.
