£54 million Arteta target set to be available for cut-price

Last summer, most Arsenal fans were convinced that we were on the verge of getting a deal for Houssem Aouar of Lyon over the line.

Reports however suggested that we simply were not willing to meet Lyon’s £54 million valuation of their star man, with our offer being around the £40 million mark.

The good news for Arsenal fans is that the young playmaker could be available for as little as £30 million this summer.

This is because Lyon have been hit hard by the implications of the pandemic and are left with a summer where they may have to raise funds to balance the books.

To worsen their situation, William Saliba’s first senior goal of his career ensured that Lyon could not qualify for the Champions League next season, which they may have been relying on to bring more money into the club.

I think that Arteta will reignite his interest in Aouar, but he might encounter some difficulties. Last season, we all knew we had to get the deal over the line. Many of the other top european clubs were not in for Aouar last year because of the pandemic, but surely some of Europe’s elite will be sniffing around Aouar if he is available for such a bargain price.

It would be a great signing if we can pull it off, though we might struggle to convince him without the allure of European competition next season.
