Arsenal favourites to sign £44 million Bundesliga youngster

There have been numerous reports this afternoon linking Arsenal with a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen’s young centre back, Edmond Tapsoba.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Germany. He is a fairly quick and physical centre back, but one who is also comfortable on the ball and even can dribble.

With David Luiz set to depart the club and Chambers thought of more as a right back by Arteta, Edu has shortlisted a number of centre back options to pursue this summer, in order to provide competition for the likes of Saliba and Holding next year.

Tapsoba reportedly tops that list, but a move would not come cheap. The player has a market value of £36 million and a release clause of £44 million, meaning it is likely to be a very costly move for Arsenal.

That being said, if Arteta believes he would suit our system it might turn out to be money well spent.

I for one do not believe that a centre back needs to be a priority, but if, later on in the window, there is still some cash to spend then I would love to see someone of his qualities at the Emirates.

Though it seems strange, considering earlier today L’Quipe were reporting that Arsenal were ready to give Saliba his chance next season.
