The position next to Partey in Arsenal’s midfield is one which it seems Arteta wants to improve this summer. Partey overall has had a good start to life at Arsenal and has shown signs of his quality. However, we have seen a few times this season that when he play with Xhaka, there isn’t enough forward passing, yet when Ceballos was used there Partey was often left isolated.
With that in mind, Arsenal have reportedly identified Yves Bissouma of Brighton to fill that gap. The 24-year-old has had an impressive season with Brighton, forming a key part of their possession based system. He is so composed in possession, but out of possession is where he is at his best; he made 104 tackles (more than anyone else) and 64 interceptions in the league. He also won a mega 227 duels!
We all knew before that Arsenal were interested, but now things start to suggest Arsenal are closing in.
For example, many fans on Twitter have noted that Pepe was chatting extensively with Bissouma at the end of our final game of the season. Perhaps they are just good friends, perhaps he was trying to convince Bissouma to join.
However, more compellingly, the Times have reported that his price tag has gone down. Brighton had reportedly wanted £40 million for their anchorman, but that may now have dropped to £30 million.
When asked about his future, Graham Potter did not seem totally convinced he would still be there next season. “As far as I know he’s going to report to pre-season like everyone else, but it’s football” Potter said.
Overall, I think if he is available for £30 million this would be a great deal. I think he is twice the player Sander Berge is and would make a great partner for Thomas Partey. For £40 million, that seems quite steep, but if the rumours about the cut price are to be believed, it might be worth the money.
