Arsenal face a Leicester bidding war for £15 million Lacazette replacement

As we get closer and closer to the end of the season, it appears clear that Arsenal will be entering the market in the summer for a number of new additions.

With Eddie Nketiah and Lacazette linked with moves away, and Aubameyang not getting any younger (nor better it would seem), we may have to invest in a new number 9.

The position is not what I would describe as a crisis. We will have Martinelli and Balogun to operate in that position, however I think Arteta will be hoping for someone more proven, but without breaking the bank.

That is a criteria which seems to put Celtic frontman Odsonne Edouard at the top of the list. The Frenchman moved to Celtic a few seasons ago to replace Moussa Dembele and has not disappointed. The Frenchman has notched up 83 goals in 127 starts since making the move. I don’t care what anyone says, that is an impressive return regardless of the league you play in.

It seems Odsonne Edouard is so favoured because of the price. I remember a couple of years ago Arsenal were linked with a £30 million move for him. Well, now it would seem that just £15 million would be enough to secure their best player. I think a combination of him running down his contract and the financial impacts of Coronavirus might be forcing Celtic to sell on the cheap.

Some will have concerns that he won’t be cut out for the Premier League, however I think he is a really top talent. The range of goals he scores shows that he could score goals anywhere. He is a free-kick/penalty specialist, he is comfortable playing with his back to goal to hold the ball up, he is constantly looking for those quick one-two’s with teammates that Lacazette is so good at and he has a really burst of pace so he can play on the shoulder or in the channels as well. He seems like a very well-rounded striker and the perfect guy to have for a few years while Balogun comes of age.

Balogun seems hugely promising but I’m not sure we will rely on him week after week in his debut season next year. We have to admit that it might take him some time to get used to the senior side.

With Martinelli and Saka on the flanks, Edouard leading the line and Odegaard in the pocket, that will be a really free-flowing attack next season. What do you think of the signing Gooners?
