Mikel Arteta has been subtly making it clear in his press conferences that he is planning a significant summer overhaul in the summer, hopefully to fund some signings which can put us back in title races.
ESPN reports now suggest that Atletico, Roma and Sevilla are all monitoring the situation of Alexandre Lacazette very closely.
Lacazette moved to Arsenal back in 2017 for a then club-record £47.5 million. The Frenchman has often been a fan favourite and always been reliable, even if he perhaps did not score as many goals as the fans might have expected of him.
Lacazette has been one of our best players this season with 13 goals and 2 assists from just 24 starts. It has been the kind of goal every other game form that we were expecting.
However, despite a solid season, his future looks uncertain. In the summer he will be 30 with just 12 months left in his current deal. Arsenal may be wary of falling into past traps and offering an ageing player a new bumper deal.
Arsenal may also wish to learn from situations where we have let our best players run their contract down and leave for free, like what happened to Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal may want to cash in this summer.
According to Transfemarkt, Lacazette still has a value of £31.5 million. I think that with his contract situation as it is, we are unlikely to get as much as that, however with a number of interested clubs, a bidding war might drive the price up.
