£23 million Odegaard-alternative set to be available this summer

When Arsenal were in the market for a new creative midfielder to replace Mesut Ozil, we were linked with many names. Houssem Aouar, Emi Buendia, Dominik Szoboszlai and Odegaard to name but a few. Another name that was on the list was 20-year-old Orkun Kokcu.

Despite his young age, Kokcu has become an important part of the Feyenoord side. He is rated at just £23 million, and it appears now that Feyenoord will be looking to cash in.

Kokcu said “I still have a contract until 2025, but the situation has changed”.

“Feyenoord have been very open about the financial situation, and it is clear that the club is ending up in the minus. If a club comes to me with a good story and Feyenoord can make money from it, I can imagine that I will listen to it.”

I don’t think this would be a terrible signing if we are forced into it, but I would much rather the club sign some less risky talents like Buendia, Aouar or Odegaard. Despite being an impressive talent, Kokcu has been plying his trade in the Dutch league, which as we have seen from transfers in the past, this is no guarantee they can continue that form in the Premier League. Depay, Bergwijn and Janssen are all examples of this. I feel as though with Smith Rowe and Miguel Azeez coming through, we don’t need to add many more ‘future prospects’. Instead, we should be focused on spending big on some top class players like Aouar or Buendia.

But what do you think Gunners? Would you take him at Arsenal?
