Who Will Be Bellerin’s Replacement?

1. Time For A Change

Hector Bellerin’s time seems to be coming to an end at Arsenal. The vice-captain has not been in his best form this season, which is why a lot of fans’ patience have ran out regarding the right-back. Hector Bellerin has been at Arsenal for almost 10 years, in which 7 of those years were served in the first team. It is safe to say that he couldn’t live up to the hype that was created around him in his beginning years, but we can’t deny the fact that he’s been an important player for us. This aside, a lot of Arsenal fans feel like it’s the right time to find a replacement for the 25-year old Spaniard. But to be fair, this has been the case for a couple of years now. And regardless of the amount of critics he has received in the past, he still fought his way into the first team every season, despite having multiple injuries on the way. But now the plans of selling the right-back have finally reached Mikel Arteta’s mind. Therefore, the chance of Hector Bellerin leaving this summer is very likely.

2. What About The Interest For Hector?

2 European giants seem to be lining up for him, where Paris Saint-Germain is favourite to sign him. The French club has been interested in Bellerin for multiple years, and now, the transfer finally seems feasible. Also the club where Bellerin played before joining Arsenal back in 2011, being FC Barcelona, are showing serious interest. Last summer the Catalan side brought in Sergino Dest from Ajax for a fee of €20 million, but he hasn’t been able to live up to his expectations. The value for Hector Bellerin is roundabout €20 million as well, but if PSG and Barcelona really want to go for him, the value could rise up to €30 million.

3. Who Will Replace Him?

Till this day, there are 2 names circulating as potential renewals. The first one is Max Aarons. The English youngster will be sold by Norwich City, and European giants are eyeing up on him, as he seems to be one of the most talented right-backs on the market right now. It is reported that Bayern are willing to offer Norwich + €40 million for the young prospect, which could form a real danger for us. Arsenal are looking for a replacement that costs a maximum of €30 million, which brings us to plan B. Or to put it another way, plan Lamptey. Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey is another addition of England’s next Golden Generation. The young talent left Chelsea for The Seagulls in 2020. This season, he’s been able to really break through, which is why they are keen on keeping him for another season. Lamptey’s market value is currently €18 million, but as Brighton are not planning on selling him, that number could easily rise up to €35 million.

4. My Opinion

Personally I think both options could be great additions. First of all they both have Premier League experience, and both have proven they’re able to handle English top tier level. Also, Aarons and Lamptey are still very young. So, as talented as they are, there’s always room for improvement. So where better to improve than Arsenal, where youngsters like Bukayo Saka, ESR and Gabriel Martinelli are carrying this club? Arsenal should splash the cash for one of them next summer, which will lead to another defensive problem being solved. It certainly is an opportunity this club can’t let slide.
