Given the recent reports that Arsenal are preparing for life without Hector Bellerin, it is highly likely that we will see Arteta enter the market in the summer for a new right back.
There are a number of players who have been linked with Arsenal, most notably Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey and Norwich’s Max Aarons. Whilst Brighton might be looking to keep hold of Lamptey for a bit longer, Norwich have admitted that they will need to sell Aarons at some point.
Aarons is a product of the Canaries’ youth system, but despite his tender age has already established himself as one of English football’s best up and coming right backs.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all been linked with Aarons.
Now, Norwich co-owner Delia Smith has handed those clubs a huge boost. Smith said:
“Max Aarons is one of the best. He is going to be one of the top footballers and it won’t be at Norwich”
“He knows that, we know that. But we didn’t have any problem with Max or his parents on this particular occasion and this particular deal. Obviously, we will lose him, but that is part of our plan.”
The only downside for any team that lands his signature, is that it could be quite an expensive deal. Somewhere around the £30 million mark is reportedly what Norwich would want for their young talent.
Personally, I would say that represents fairly good value. He is a great one on one defender and is becoming a good attacking asset for Norwich as well. It is certainly not cheap, but we will be thanking ourselves in 5 or 6 years time when we’ve had a stalwart at right back. Plus, hopefully selling Bellerin could raise most of these funds.
