Recent reports have suggested that Hector Bellerin is ready to leave Arsenal to explore a new challenge abroad. Bellerin has always been linked with foreign clubs ever since he burst onto the scene.
These rumours don’t seem to be going away. Barcelona, who I remember once were prepared to pay £50 million for Bellerin, are interested once again and there is a proposal in place which might suit both clubs.
There can be no denying that Arsenal have been in the market for a back up left back. Kieran Tierney is just too injury prone to be relied on as the only natural left back at the club. Since getting rid of Kolasinac, that’s exactly what he has been.
Arsenal made a late swoop for Junior Firpo, Barcelona’s 24 year old back up to Jordi Alba, in the latter stages of the January window. However, it was said that nothing short of a convincing offer was going to get Barcelona to sell without a replacement lined up.
The deal could be back on, but perhaps we are going to see Bellerin head to the Catalunyan giants in exchange.
Barcelona may well not be alone in their pursuit of Bellerin, with French giants PSG also interested in his signature.
No doubt Arsenal fans will have fond memories of him as a player at Arsenal, and will commend his long tenure at the club. But, do we think this is a good deal?
Personally, I think that Bellerin has found his ceiling and is getting to the age where he may struggle getting to that next step. He is too good to be a backup right back for us, but not the best we could get as a starter. This deal would give us the perfect understudy to Kieran Tierney and would also give us an excuse to move for someone like Max Aarons or Tariq Lamptey to fill our right back spot.
