Arsenal want to replace Nketiah with £20 million Sporting Lisbon striker

Arsenal hold negotiations with €20m-rated Portuguese striker.

The Gunners are reportedly closing in on finalising a summer deal for Sporting Lisbon attacker Tiago Tomas. The U20 Portuguese star has spent his entire career with the Liga NOS giants after joining their youth academy back in 2014.

Arsenal are prepared to land Tiago before the summer transfer window opens. After a successful youth career he pushed on and broke into the Sporting first eleven, Tomas has already grown to establish himself as a senior first-team regular at the tender age of just 18 years old.

The young centre-forward, who primarily operates as a lone-striker can also play the right-wing role, has reportedly emerged as a summer target for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

It has been claimed that Gunners technical director Edu has recently been in direct contact with Sporting Lisbon director of football Hugo Viana.

The Portuguese centre-forward is reportedly has a minimum release clause of £52m, however, due to the financial implications the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is having, Sporting are apparently willing to accept just £20m for the exciting young centre-forward.

Edu and Mikel Arteta were very impressed with the youngster whilst they were scouting Lisbon’s match against Benfica ahead of their UEL tie.

After already making international appearances for Portugal’s under-17s, under-18s and under-19s, Tomas is touted as a star of the future. One to most definitely keep an eye on.

This tells me that Mikel is not happy with the crop of youngsters he has at his disposal already in our attacking positions.
And where does this leave the like of Floarin Balogun, Eddie, Nelson, and Gabriel Martinelli.

All good young prospects but perhaps not all of them are in Arteta’s plans. Rumour has it Eddie Nketiah in particular will be made available for transfer this summer, with Arteta not seeing enough from the 21-year-old to keep him in the squad
