Arsenal made a late attempt to sign Barcelona player. The La Liga giants would have considered ‘a convincing offer’.
Given Arsenal are short on left side cover it seems we were actively seeking reinforcement this transfer window, but came up short in our efforts.
Arsenal made a late attempt in the January transfer market to sign defender Junior Firpo from Barcelona but failed to get a deal over the line.
That’s according to RAC 1 journalist Gerard Romero, who says the Gunners were in contact with the La Liga giants at the Nou Camp to suggest a deal.
Firpo was continuously linked with a move away from Barcelona throughout January, having found himself out of favour under Ronald Koeman this season.
It seems AC Milan were close to sealing a move for firpo but the move broke down and failed to materialise.
Arsenal’s efforts also did not meet their criteria, but perhaps this is one to keep an eye on for the summer when Firpo will almost certainly be leaving Catalonia.
He can play left back or left wing and reminds me of a left footed Nelson semedo.
He is extremely composed on the ball and is an extremely sound and solid defender.
He also likes to drive forward in a similar style to our very own flower of Scotland.
Kieran Tierney is deservedly our number one left back however he has this poor injury record.
Our cover for Tierney is limited.
We do not want to see Saka playing there given his form from higher up the pitch. We simply cannot afford to lose that.
AMN has joined West brom who could also cover there for us but again was not his natural position
That is why we targeted a left sided player and if we did go back in for Junior in the summer then he would be a very welcome addition to the Arsenal first team.
