Juve legend reveals he regrets not joining Wenger’s Arsenal

36-year-old Juventus veteran Giorgio Chiellini, who has won nine Serie A titles, has surprisingly revealed that he wishes he had joined Arsenal when Arsene Wenger came calling 20 years ago.

“In hindsight, I was a fool to decline that offer. I was 16, I played in Serie C, I got a huge offer. I didn’t feel ready. If I had accepted, it would have given the impression of betraying Livorno.”

– Chiellini, in an interview with Goal.com

We often talk about people whom Arsene Wenger regrets not signing, like Yaya Toure when he trialed at Arsenal, or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Furthermore, it has been revealed that Robin van Persie called for Arsenal to sign Chiellini years later:

“At a given moment I felt called upon to say what Arsenal could do better in order to win the league. I felt we lacked a winning mentality, and asked Arsene Wenger to sign Giorgio Chiellini. I have played against him a few times, and he is a genuine winner.”

– van Persie

Perhaps, if Arsenal had moved for Chiellini, RVP would have stayed as well.
