In breaking news today, Martin Ødegaard’s loan move to Arsenal is now imminent and could be announced very soon. Various sources are reporting on this now, so let’s go through the major updates:

Spanish sources El Confidencial and AS have reported that Ødegaard has chosen Real Sociedad over Arsenal. Adding to that, Spanish paper Marca say that the deal could be official in the “next few hours”:

However, it is looking like there will be no option to permanently purchase the 22-year-old at the end of the season, because Real Madrid rate him too highly and consider him an extremely valuable asset for the future. Journalist Felix Diaz (Marca) confirmed this just over half an hour ago:

Finally, if hearing all of that from Spain isn’t enough, Arsenal fan favourite the AFC Bell (who broke the Partey news and is widely considered reliable) has also spoken:

“After the consultation session between Ødegaard and his close circle, the player decided to accept Arsenal’s offer. Sources close to the player confirm that there is an agreement in principle on a deal that will be announced as soon as possible.”

If this will be no more than a short-term loan deal, then it is likely that Arsenal will turn their attentions to other targets, such as Aouar, perhaps when more funds are available in the summer.

Arsenal will hope that the Norwegian midfielder can make an instant impact and provide a boost to the season. He scored 7 goals for Real Sociedad on loan last season, but has not had much of a chance to feature back at the Bernabeu this season.
