Arsenal fans will have mixed feelings this week with the Mesut Ozil situation reaching a long-awaited conclusion. We have heard rumours of both DC United and Fenerbahce vying for Ozil’s signature, and it seems that the Turkish club will be the ones to land him. Latest reports suggest that the move is now only a few steps away from completion.
The first big update comes from Sky Germany, who say that the Turkish club want to sign Ozil immediately and have submitted financial details for his proposed contract. Furthermore, it looks like there is total agreement between the club and player:
Fenerbahce’s manager did not give as much away, but states that we will know the outcome very shortly:
Finally, A Spor journalist Ahmet Selim Kul, who reports about Fenerbahce, claims that it will be a 3-year contract, with the deal expected to be sealed on Monday, January 11th, after Fenerbahce’s game:
The German playmaker was excluded from Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season, to everyone’s shock, and has not stepped onto the pitch in Arsenal colours at all.
Many wondered whether or not Ozil would get a chance to prove himself to Arteta in the latter half of the season. Now, that will almost certainly not be the case, with Arsenal clearly eager to get this over with. The move, taking 350,000-a-week off the wage bill, will provide a big boost to Arsenal and allow much more freedom to pursue transfer target.
Nevertheless, this is a player who once lifted the entire fanbase, created beautiful moments on the pitch, and left us with truly special memories. Thank you, Mesut Ozil.
