Arsenal linked to Julian Draxler… again

The January transfer window has not truly started until someone has linked Arsenal with German attacking midfielder Julian Draxler. This time, it’s the popular news outlet France Football, who say Arsenal are “interested” but will face competition from Hertha Berlin and Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old plays for PSG, whose new coach Mauricio Pochettino is unlikely to give him much playing time. Draxler has already spent much of this season warming the bench, with just two goals and an assist so far.

You could go back to any previous winter window and you would find a story about Arsenal pursuing Draxler’s signature. Once upon a time, when Draxler (then at Schalke) was one of the hot young prospects in football, it seemed like a very exciting prospect, but Arsenal fans will probably be tired of seeing the same story appear over and over.

Arsenal have already started moving players out, with Kolasinac and Saliba heading to Germany and France respectively on loan, so rumours such as these are likely to pick up pace over the coming weeks.

Arsenal do not seem to be interested in Eriksen, and have already missed out on Dominik Szoboszlai, who joined RB Leipzig instead. The top names being mentioned right now are Sabitzer, Buendia, Brandt, Isco, and now, Draxler…
