There are two really key pieces of news in today’s transfer update. And I think on the whole it’s good news.
Firstly, William Saliba is about to return to France on loan for the rest of this season. Arteta has left Arsenal fans fairly confused in excluding Saliba for so long, however Arteta made it clear that ultimately Saliba still needed a transition year which before making his mark on the first team. As much as I feel like we should have seen Saliba play at least a handful of times this season, it is good news that he will be able to go out on loan and build up his sharpness and experience ahead of next season when he will perhaps be better equipped to begin making an impact in London.
It’s important to note that Arsenal and Arteta still reportedly have very high hopes for the youngster and see him as a key part of their future plans. As such, no obligation or option to buy has been included in the loan deal.
The other exciting news is that there appears to be more evidence to suggest Arsenal might be able to bring Buendia to the Emirates this January. It is said that Arsenal are not likely to have the funds to secure a deal for main target Aouar, and this deal is more likely to be revisited in the summer. I feel like Arsenal should do whatever it takes to sign Aouar, ideally alongside Buendia, however Buendia will still bring some much needed flair and creativity to our midfield. Edu is apparently exploring the possibility of a player plus cash deal with Norwich. Reports suggest discussions have already been made with the agent and agreeing personal terms with the player are unlikely to be a problem. The question is whether or not Arsenal can convince Norwich to part ways with their best player. Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson are the rumoured names that the Gunners might consider in any such deal.
