Arsenal are likely to be linked with a host of attacking midfielders this winter, with Rb Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai, Inter’s Christian Eriksen, and Norwich’s Emi Buendia at the top of that list. While Eriksen would be the most experienced option, both Buendia and Szoboszlai are exciting prospects and it will be very interesting to see who Arsenal end up prioritizing. While we wait, though, we have learned something new about Arsenal’s approach for the 23-year-old Argentinian who joined Norwich from Getafe in 2018.
According to Chris Wheatley, chief Arsenal reports for Football London (and previously Goal), Arsenal are on good terms with Buendia’s representatives, who have looked after Alexis Sanchez and Emiliano Martinez in North London during their respective Arsenal spells. However, the same report claims that Arsenal have not made a formal approach to Norwich yet, and any move will depend entirely on whether Norwich are willing to sell.
“Buendia’s key pass rate of 3.3 per 90 minutes last season was only second to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, while he created 70 chances which was only bettered by the Belgian and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander Arnold.”Chris Wheatley, Football London
Meanwhile, Houssem Aouar looks to be staying put at Lyon for at least another seven months after telling the media that he is focused on completing his season with the Ligue 1 side. Nevertheless, Arsenal clearly have plenty of options and Arteta is clearly a fan of Buendia.
Buendia was linked with Arsenal over the summer as well, when most sources claimed an asking price of at least £20 million, but it is possible that that number has increased by this point.
