Edu’s reported next 3 transfer targets after getting Partey deal over the line

There is a huge degree of optimism around Arsenal right now after the board were finally able to give Arteta his first marquee signing after meeting Thomas Partey’s release clause on deadline day. However, for all the defensive issues that the Ghanaian can help Arsenal with, there are still some final pieces to the jigsaw that is Arsenal’s attack which Edu and Arteta have identified to take the Gunners to the next level.

While it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will go back in for Houssem Aouar, it is clear that there is still an intention to bring in a new creative midfielder. The most likely candidate appears to be Dominik Szoboszlai from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg. He is a 19-year-old attacking midfielder comfortable playing on either wing or being employed in a more central role. Despite his inexperience, there is ample reason for fans to be excited about links to the Hungarian. Fresh from the same scouts that developed Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, Szboszlai won the Player of the Year award for the Austrian Bundesliga in 2019/2020 thanks to his 9 goals and 10 assists in 27 matches. The Austrian side will soon face Atletico Madrid and treble-winning Bayern Munich in the group stage of the Champions League this season; Atletico on the 27th of October and Bayern a week later. This will be a great chance for Arsenal fans to really see what the hot prospect is made of.

In scouting the Hungarian, Arsenal’s attention has also been drawn to an attacker in the Red Bull ranks. Zambian striker Patson Daka, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today, has also been linked with the Gunners. He was the man who the Austrian side saw fit to step up and fill the void left by Haaland’s departure and he has not disappointed, netting 38 goals and providing 16 assists in 52 appearances so far for the club. This news comes from the Express who suggest that Arsenal have considered selling Alexandre Lacazette to raise funds.

A potential alternative to the Zambian hitman is a Frenchman who has been consistently linked the Arsenal throughout the 2019/20 campaign. 22-year-old Odsonne Edouard is currently plying his trade for Scottish Champions Celtic and is arguably their best talent in the squad right now. In the 2019/20 season Edouard grabbed 22 goals in the league (which was called early) as well as 4 goals in Celtic’s Europa league campaign. With 4 goals in his first 7 league games this season, this is a target which Arsenal would do well to keep tabs on. However, the player has a similar play style to Lacazette; he is very comfortable receiving the ball to feet, laying it off to an overlapping runner and getting in the box to try and finish the move. He is a centre-forward with a good touch, an ability to get wide players involved and a brilliant eye for goal. One might argue he would work flawlessly therefore in Arteta’s current system of wing backs and tight inside forwards such as Aubameyang, Willian and Pepe. Whoever Arsenal do target for that striker role; it appears that it is likely to be a long-term heir for Alexandre Lacazette.
