Arsenal’s new hot prospect William Saliba arrived at the Emirates after an injury-laden final season at St Etienne, and immediately high hopes were placed on the 19-year-old. However, it would appear that Arteta is keen for him to get used to the physicality of England with a loan to the Championship, before integrating him into Arsenal’s starting XI.
The news comes following on from Arteta’s comments last week about what the future may hold for Saliba. In a recent interview the boss said: “he had a year last year where Arsenal loaned him to St Etienne and that was a transition year for him”.
The Spaniard had hoped that after this loan spell he would be ready to kick on at Arsenal, but added: “for many reasons, that wasn’t the transition year that he needed because he had a lot of injuries, some personal injuries and also with COVID and the French league getting cancelled, he didn’t have that year.”
This has led to widespread speculation that Arsenal will look for a potential championship suitor to take the youngster on a season-long loan, before the domestic transfer window closes on October 16th.
The clubs rumoured to be interested include Bournemouth and Norwich, which has encouraged speculation that Arsenal may try and include Emi Buendia, creative midfielder from Norwich, in any possible deal. However, as things stand the precise club remains unclear and any talk about Buendia is just speculation. Rest assured we will keep you posted with this story’s developments. Watch this space.
