With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Arsenal fans, manager and the board alike all have their own ideas on which position they must strengthen in. However, a constant over the last countless transfer windows is that the Gunners always seem to be interested in signing a midfielder. With Mikel Arteta at the helm, a man who knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a great Arsenal midfielder and leader, this will certainly not change.
It seems that the board and the manager are on the same wavelength too, which is great to see. The reason I say this is that, according to a new report from The Sun, Mikel Arteta is showing interest in the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The 19-year-old Hungary international was linked with the club some time back, as fans may remember.
Szoboszlai plays primarily as a central midfielder but he can also play in the attack. His preference does seem to be central, although given his age he can be malleable if need be. The good thing about Szoboszlai is that he would slot straight into the Arsenal XI since he provides a role of significant need to the Gunners; he is a goal-scoring midfielder.
Since the restart of Austrian football, Szoboszlai has been in incredible form. He even scored a hat-trick against Sturm Graz recently, contributing to five goals in his last five games. This is the kind of goal involvement that Arsenal need, because while their midfielders are great in their own respect, they don’t contribute to the scoring as much as they probably should.
Truth be told, since Aaron Ramsey left the club Arsenal have struggled to find a box-to-box midfielder in his mold. Joe Willock is certainly taking steps in the right direction and his goal recently against Southampton proves this. However, he is still young and too inexperienced on the big stage to lead Arsenal to stardom.
Szoboszlai has already featured in the Champions League for Salzburg, let’s not forget, as he scored a goal in Salzburg’s thrilling 6-2 home win over Genk to kick start the campaign last year. All in all, he is getting some valuable experience and playing alongside the likes of Takumi Minamino and Erling Haaland, both of which made big moves to Liverpool and Dortmund respectively, he is in the right place to make the jump to Arsenal.
Do you think Dominik Szoboszlai has what it takes to make it at Arsenal?
