When Arsenal had to bid farewell to Aaron Ramsey, it was a heart wrenching time for much of the fanbase. Although he was not a product of the academy, it certainly did feel that way. He is one of the most iconic players of the Emirates Stadium era, as he scored the winning goals in two FA Cup finals.
However, the Gunners lost him to Juventus as he wanted to take after his Wales teammate Gareth Bale in pursuing a move away. However, it has not worked out for the Welshman, as Juve have favoured the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur in the starting XI.
Now, it’s thought that Juve will look to cash in on his name. Selling him would also relieve them of paying the hefty £400k per week in wages. However, the bad news for Arsenal is that the Daily Mail have signalled Manchester United as a potential destination for the former midfielder.
Of course, fans can rejoice and breathe a collective sigh of relief at the memory of Ramsey turning down Manchester United initially to join Arsenal. This was when United were a super club, bear in mind. So there is always this hope to fall back on.
However, Ramsey may not have as much of a choice in the current market. As we know, the Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a market crash which means that teams across Europe will be picking at scraps, as will players. If Manchester United is Ramsey’s only destination, he may have to swallow his pride.
Of course, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to sign a midfielder this summer, hopefully an attacking one. With Paul Pogba rumoured to be on his way out, the Red Devils need a box-to-box midfielder to partner Bruno Fernandes. It pains me to say, Ramsey fits this bill perfectly. We can only hope it doesn’t happen.
