Arsenal will most likely have to raise significant money from player sales if they are to pursue their big target(s) in the transfer market, such as Thomas Partey. While smaller departures have been mentioned, like Mkhitaryan permanently moving to Roma or the possible sale of Mustafi, one big story to watch is Lacazette’s.
According to a report from FC Inter News, Lacazette’s representatives have already approached Inter Milan to assess their interest; however, the response from the Serie A club has been “lukewarm”. Inter Milan will want to replace star striker Lautaro Martinez, if he leaves, but Lacazette is not their priority.
Below is a translated excerpt from the report:
“The Frenchman could leave Arsenal in the next market window and it is not a problem for Mikel Arteta, however no signals have arrived from Milan.”FC Inter News
The Frenchman has been involved in controversy over this football-less period, with photos of him inhaling ‘balloons’ leaked to the media back in May. However, even before that, there was talk of him heading for the exit door three years after he signed for Wenger’s Arsenal (2017). Until this point, Atletico Madrid were the only club with any real links to the player.
However, if this latest report is true, then Lacazette’s camp are already looking at options in an active effort to try and secure a departure. Lacazette earns over £180,000-a-week at Arsenal, so letting him go would also free up the wage bill significantly.
It will be interesting to see how Lacazette fits into Arteta’s plans once the Premier League restarts, and if these approaches have any effect.
Other big departures could include Mesut Özil, or the one Arsenal fans are currently dreading, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It’s difficult to imagine that Arsenal would let both Aubameyang and Lacazette go, though.
