Eddie Nketiah is a hot prospect for Arsenal, and during this season has shown glimpses of real quality in the limited minutes he’s played for the Gunners. He’s a striker with 3 goals in 7 first team appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring a goal on average every 144 minutes this season. With Alexandre Lacazette struggling for Arsenal in recent months, there is a feeling that he should be dropped in favour of the London-born Nketiah.
Nketiah is 21 years old and during a loan spell with Leeds United he was asked by BBC Radio about his relationship with Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who was in the stands to see Nketiah score the winner in a 1-0 win over Brenford.
“I did some promotion shoots with him and we got really close. He’s taken a real liking to me and it’s a dream come true because as a kid I’ve always looked up to him and watched his clips.
“For him to be taking such an active role in supporting and coming to watch the games is great because he gives me lots of advice, like a mentor”

His playing style has been compared to that of Ian Wright, as he finds himself in a lot of natural positions to find chances to put the ball in the net. His bravery and pace allow him to beat his defender, find the ball from key passes and put the ball in the net. Wright is clearly a big fan of the Arsenal prospect, as he has shown on Twitter whilst watching Nketiah in the stands.
Arsenal could do with another goal threat, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal is uncertain and Lacazette hasn’t been as prolific at Arsenal as he was during his time at Lyon. Realistically, if Nketiah starts more games it will come at the expense of Lacazette, as Aubameyang has been very prolific this season and this would allow Nketiah to play in his preferred #9 role. At the very least, an opportunity like this would be able to show Arsenal exactly what Nketiah can do without much added pressure.
Do you think Nketiah should finish the rest of this season as Arsenal’s main striker?
