As transfer talk picks up pace with Chelsea on the verge of landing one of Germany’s most lethal forwards, Timo Werner, Arsenal fans will be wondering how long they will have to wait for their big transfer update. Of course, there are no guarantees that we will be able to spend big, and it may depend on various factors including where we finish in the Premier League. However, if we are treated to a big signing, it’s looking very likely that it will be Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.
In fact, reports from Ghana this week suggested that the defensive midfielder may have already said ‘yes’ to Arsenal, agreeing to a move in principle. If this were true, it would just be a matter of Arsenal meeting the player’s release clause, or somehow convincing Atletico to let their man go for less than the full £44.5 million payment.
You can read an excerpt of the report, from Football Made in Ghana, below:
“FootballMadeInGhana understands that Arsenal now believe they have won the race for his signature, with ‘almost every detail of the move’ already agreed.”
Football Made in Ghana
We’ve actually heard a lot from Ghanaian sources and players throughout this saga, and the general feeling in Ghana seems to strongly favour a move to Arsenal. However, it is difficult to comment on how reliable these sources are.
One source that we do know is credible, however, suggests that this update from Football Made in Ghana may be premature. Fabrizio Romano, who works for Sky Sports and The Guardian, has a near-perfect record in reporting reliable and accurate transfer updates. In a reply to an Arsenal fan on Twitter, he revealed that Partey’s decision is still pending:
Only time will tell whether or not Partey has his sights set on an Emirates move, or he will snub Arsenal interest to stay at Atletico. We can only hope that the Arteta project will lure him.
