With the summer transfer fast approaching, Mikel Arteta will be eager to get a step ahead of his rivals. However, this is bound to be a difficult task given the implications of the Coronavirus pandemic and, of course, the Premier League starting back up again with Arsenal’s first game back being against Manchester City, Arteta’s former club.
That said, there is still some progress being made. It would seem that Arsenal are drawing up a shortlist of names that they would like to sign in the summer, which would be the stage reached at this time if situations were normal. The difference rests upon the caliber of players expected to be signed, but this should be expected and appreciated, since other clubs will be in the exact same position.
Arsenal are looking to invest in some young, relatively cheap players in the transfer window. This is a common theme. According to Goal, Ricky-Jade Jones has appreciated the interest shown by Arsenal, claiming that he is very “flattered” but he is not letting this distract him from carrying out the rest of the season with Peterborough United.
The 17-year-old is going about this in completely the right way and Arsenal fans should have only respect for him. The fact that he is not getting carried away by big clubs being interested, despite what many in his age bracket would be thinking, shows he is a mature and level-headed player, who is dedicated to serving his club to the best of his ability.
If Arsenal are serious about signing the forward, then they will face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United, which in itself speaks volumes of Jones’ potential. If he’s good enough for the European champions and soon-to-be champions of England, then he should be good enough for Arteta too. Particularly since Arsenal will likely struggle with their depth in the frontline if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sold.
