Thomas Partey’s father reveals how Arsenal talks are progressing

It is not uncommon to hear from players’ family or friends during transfer sagas – and it’s also not uncommon for some of these updates to be misleading. For example, the famous Higuain to Arsenal saga was filled with comments from the then-Madrid forward’s family members saying that talks were “advanced”, but a move never materialised. Sometimes, you get an update that turns out to be reliable. In 2014, Alexis Sanchez’s barber posted a photo wishing him luck at Arsenal, and shortly after his move from Barcelona was confirmed.

In this case, at least we can be pretty confident that the quotes are authentic, rather than based on a fake Instagram account or distributed by a Twitter account seeking attention. Jacob Partey, it would appear, has spoken about his son’s future, and it’s exciting news for Arsenal fans.

He told Ghana-based Tru FM ‘Sports World Show’:

“I have called my son and he told me the truth (about discussions between him and Arsenal). It will come down to the offer that Atletico Madrid are demanding. A player can shine if he move to another team. There are Arsenal supporters in Ghana and Arsenal is not a small club. I will be happy if my son joins Arsenal but what is needed is how his current club is going to release him. “

If you missed the big update two days ago, Thomas Partey was more or less confirmed as an Arsenal target by Fabrizio Romano writing for The Guardian. According to that report, Arteta is keen but Atletico will try to keep him with a new contract offer. Full story here.
