While Aubameyang’s future is one of the big talking points at Arsenal right now, there are no guarantees that the Gunners’ second star striker Alexandre Lacazette will stay at the club. The 28-year-old Frenchman, who suffered a nine-game goal drought this season, is under contract at the Emirates until 2022.
Today’s update comes from French source Soccer Link, who claim on their Twitter page that talks are “progressing well” as Arsenal search for a replacement. The same source mentions that Arsenal are keen on Coutinho, but the signing will be difficut to pull off as his agent prefers Chelsea.
All transfer talk should be taken with a pinch of salt, and to be quite honest, we haven’t heard much about this specific source before. Soccer Link reported in early March that Atletico, who nearly signed Lacazette in 2017 before being struck with a transfer ban, had re-sparked their interest in the player, with sporting director Andrea Berta directly reaching out to him. If they are to be believed, Lacazette is keen on the move despite being content at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked with Atletico midfielder Thomas Partey, so don’t be surprised if rumours of as swap deal surface soon.
Lacazette impressed during the 18/19 season under Emery, forming a formidable partnership with Aubameyang, but has received criticism this season for failing to meet the standards he set last season. Amidst talk that Arteta does not consider Lacazette to be a key part of his future plans, a big money offer could prove to be tempting.
